Why I Don't Speak Nicely to Myself

Many of us fall prey to this voice in our head that can often be judgmental, overly critical and restrictive. If we begin to consider what our experiences may look and feel like once we change our relationship to this inner “bully”, we open up to being more flexible, and understanding towards ourselves. We become more resilient.

Join Derek de Braga in this live class to explore why we are so prone to negative self-talk and how we can reduce its impacts on our lives.

About Derek de Braga

I’ve always been interested and curious about what drives our behaviours and how our experiences shape our lives and sense of “self”. Working in the field of addictions and mental health as a therapist for the past 9 years, I have had the opportunity to learn and explore some of the deeper questions that many of us struggle with. Can I change? How do I slow down or stop my mind from racing? Is there a way to tame this “bully in my mind? Why do I keep slipping back into old / or bad habits?

I want us to embark on a journey of self-discovery and understanding. We’ll begin to cultivate a more meaningful and compassionate relationship with the “self”. A relationship that no longer feels foreign, or out of touch with our values, but one that is flexible and understanding; a relationship with yourself where safety, trust and a curiosity are the pillars that allow you to explore more freely.

My background and training is in mindfulness and harm reduction approaches to behavior change. My goal is to introduce you to practical skills that can facilitate growth and connection with yourself and others. My intention is also to help ignite curiosity and dive into reflections that stimulate deeper and more diverse experiences. As we move to a more fluid and flexible state of mind, we can become more open and resilient to life’s challenges and unpredictability.

Join me in this journey of self-discovery as we dive into the inner workings of our conscious experiences and open up to a more loving, accepting and compassionate relationship to ourselves.
