SURE for Mental Health - Mindfulness

About this session

The heart of mindfulness is present moment awareness. It is the practice of bringing one’s full attention to the present moment; observing thoughts, feelings and actions without judgment. Being mindful and present takes practice. So in class they will train in awareness, attention, presence and compassion, together.

Practicing mindfulness significantly helps to lower stress levels, depression and anxiety and increase feelings of contentment, calm, confidence and resilience.

We are able to deal with distressing emotions better, regulate our sleeping patterns, lower blood pressure and strengthen the body’s immunity.

In fact, it has been found to be particularly beneficial in the treatment of stress, depression, addictions and chronic pain.

Practicing Mindfulness in class together will also assist you in developing an understanding of why you react the way you do in certain situations and help you break free of unhelpful habits.

You learn to be present in the moment, to process your actions in a kinder and more positive way. To be present and conscious of your environment, emotions and body sensations and to adjust your unconscious automatic behavior to a more consciously aligned space of reason.

You will learn how to develop:

• Strategies to handle difficult feelings, stress, chronic pain and moods

• Greater patience, compassion, determination and focus

• Deeper body awareness

• Healthy sleeping patterns
