Momentum: Mental Wellbeing for Black Filmmakers

We Are Parable have designed Momentum, a three tier support for Black Filmmakers that provides them with a platform to get their work seen, a mentoring scheme and a series of mental health wellbeing sessions. Taking place from November until January 2021, this work has been supported by the Film and TV Charity, and many of the events are free to participate in.

This one off session, lead by Psychological Therapist Vanessa Boachie, has been produced to help Black creatives explore underlying challenges they may face by developing practical strategies that can enhance their practice and lives.

About Session Leader Vanessa Boachie (BSc, PGCert):

I am a Qualified Psychological Therapist for individuals who are ready to redefine their lives and live meaningfully.

I use a culturally sensitive approach to work with individuals who are experiencing depression, anxiety, social anxiety, low self-esteem, life transitions, hardships and trauma.

My focus is on supporting people to overcome their psychological barriers by exploring the underlying factors that are hindering their peace and by implementing practical strategies and techniques to enhance their quality of life. I help people to holistically strengthen their relationship with themselves and break the cycle of unhelpful patterns of behaviour.

I believe that people should not be defined by the problems they have experienced and having a better understanding of themselves is the key to unlock new beginnings in life.
